Cajal Academy is a small, innovative new special education school for kids who have very high analytical reasoning skills, coupled with an area of learning, social-emotional or neurophysiological differences.

While other special education schools define their cohort based on their challenges, we define ours based on their superpowers.

All aspects of our academic and therapeutic programming is tailored to this unique cohort’s needs, including:

• standards-based academics through cross-disciplinary project-based learning

• highly-individualized, data-driven programs that build up children’s low-lying skills to address their areas of difference—not just accommodate them

• small group classes with inquiry-based peer learning

• embedded, robust social-emotional curriculum with coaching in self-regulation and growth mindset

• integrated OT, PT, counseling, executive function coaching and social skills development from PhD-level psychologist and neuropsychologist

• tight-knit community of kids who “get it,” with a carefully-fostered culture of sharing and supporting each others’ challenges

• in-person and remote instructional options to support families through the pandemic

• first-of-its-kind program empowering kids with complex medical conditions to self-monitor and self-advocate for their needs within social and academic environments
