Neuropsychologist Dr. Steven Mattis Joins Cajal Academy Board of Directors

We are extremely proud to announce that our Director of Programs, Dr. Steven Mattis, has recently been elected to our Board of Directors!

Dr. Mattis is a highly-experienced psychologist who has also been recognized internationally as a leading figure in the development of the field of clinical neuropsychology in the United States. His distinguished career includes over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, teaching positions at 3 of America's top medical schools, and serving on the board and/or as President of each of the leading neuropsychology professional associations--among other accolades and accomplishments. He has led multi-disciplinary clinics, including a learning disabilities center in the Bronx, and has several decades of experience working with children in a wide range of settings.

For the past ten years, Dr. Mattis has focused his research and clinical interests on the neurogenic components of mood, executive function and learning disorders. He brings this expertise to Cajal Academy, directing our efforts to empower kids to optimize their own outcomes through innovative strategies and approaches that apply the science of how children's hidden neurophysiological events impact their learning, social and emotional experiences. He also works directly with our students, from counseling and social skills development to co-taught classrooms, leveraging his diagnostic and treatment expertise to support children's needs across learning, executive function and social-emotional challenges.

We feel extremely privileged to have his tremendous expertise, insights and generosity of spirit for our students and in our team, and look forward to having his leadership at the board level now as well. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Mattis to this new role!
