Symptoms, Causes & Treatment of School-Based Trauma in 2e Kids

A Cajal Academy Neuroscience in Education Workshop

Friday, April 25, 12-1 pm

Brown Bag Lunch; Virtual Link Available

Join our 2nd Community Educational Workshop!

School should be a “candy store” for bright and gifted kids, but the reality is often quite different for twice exceptional kids. In fact, some 80% or more of the twice exceptional kids who apply to Cajal Academy have a history of school-based trauma.

In this Educational Workshop, we will dig into the reasons behind this and explore what can be done to avoid—and address-it. Join national 2e education speaker and Cajal Academy Head of School Cheryl Viirand, J.D. and internationally-recognized neuropsychologist Steven Mattis, PhD, A.B.P.P. to discuss how the unique neuropsychological profiles of twice exceptional kids lead to common experiences of school-based trauma; how that commonly presents as educational profiles and behaviors; and how we can help students move past these challenges and prepare to thrive in mainstream college environments.

Please RSVP below to let us know whether you’re coming in person or would like a virtual link.

About the series

This is the second in a series of workshops presented by Cajal Academy staff for parents, educators and other providers who support bright, gifted and twice exceptional kids. Borne of our work to develop neuroscience-based educational approaches, this series represents the beginning of our work to publish and disseminate the findings we have made through our work with students enrolled at Cajal Academy, and the transformative changes our students have made within the program.

We encourage you to visit our admissions page if you are interested in exploring enrollment opportunities for your child; school district personnel and other professionals are encouraged to visit our Outplacement Resource Center to learn how we can support school districts and their students.
