Developing Growth Mindset for 2e Kids

A Cajal Academy Neuroscience in Education Workshop

Friday, May 9, 12-1 pm

Brown Bag Lunch; Virtual Link Available

Twice exceptional kids can accomplish incredible things, but often struggle to develop the growth mindset required to develop their gifts.

In this Educational Workshop, internationally-recognized neuropsychologist Steven Mattis, PhD, A.B.P.P. and Cajal Academy Head of School Cheryl Viirand, J.D. will discuss the unique neuropsychological profiles of twice exceptional kids, why it leaves them prone to perfectionism, resistant to learning outside of their own interest areas and vulnerable to classroom avoidance or even school refusal, and how you can use this information at home or in the classroom to help them develop a growth mindset.

Please RSVP below to let us know whether you’re coming in person or would like a virtual link.

About the series

This is the third in a series of workshops presented by Cajal Academy staff for parents, educators and other providers who support bright, gifted and twice exceptional kids. Borne of our work to develop neuroscience-based educational approaches, this series represents the beginning of our work to publish and disseminate the findings we have made through our work with students enrolled at Cajal Academy, and the transformative changes our students have made within the program.

About Cajal Academy

Cajal Academy is a K-12 non-profit, private day school in Norwalk, Connecticut at the heart of an educational non-profit dedicated to developing new, neuroscience-based educational approaches. We are the only school in the suburbs of NYC, and one of the only ones in the world, that is specifically tailored to the needs of gifted students with special needs (often called "twice exceptional"). Founded in 2019, we've made a break-through for the field of education. We develop the executive function, collaboration and self-care skills that these inherently innovative students will need to realize their unique ways of seeing the world so they're ready for a future defined by their strengths. At the same time, we reduce or even remove the learning and/or social-emotional difficulties that interfere with their ability to access their gifts through a first-of-its-kind, research-backed approach that has the potential to revolutionize--and vastly reduce the costs of--the field of education. We also offer the first research-backed program for students with connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Now accessible by MetroNorth from New York City, Westchester County, New Haven, Danbury and points in between!

We encourage you to visit our admissions page if you are interested in exploring enrollment opportunities for your child; school district personnel and other professionals are encouraged to visit our Outplacement Resource Center to learn how we can support school districts and their students.
