It's Official: Cajal Academy is a 501(c)3!

Dear Friends,

We are thrilled to share that Cajal Academy has officially been recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization!

This is an exciting recognition of both the missions in our charter: to provide a school for bright, gifted and twice exceptional kids, and to create innovational new educational approaches that align to the science of how kids learn, socialize and grow.

This last part is the passion that gets us — myself and our whole team of educators and licensed therapists — out of bed each morning: the opportunity to help a child go further, farther, faster than they thought possible, by leveraging what neuroscientists already know about the realities of how human beings work.

If you share our passion, we hope you’ll consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us celebrate our new IRS designation, your own fundraising page to help us reach more donors, or check out our volunteer opportunities using your professional skills to to help us move this important work forward!

Thank you for your continued support—in all its forms. Together, we can make transformative changes one child at a time — and for the field of education as a whole. That’s a big vision, and one that takes a lot of hands pulling at the oars!

Yours in Gratitude,

Cheryl Viirand

Arm-Wrestling with the IRS (aka, a day in the life of a non-profit!)

Shout out to Cheryl’s former colleagues at Davis Polk and Wardwell, LLP, who worked pro bono to help secure our 501c(3) status… and who continue to work with the IRS to remove from their website an erroneous “auto-revocation” notice that they issued before they’d worked through their COVID backlog and processed our prior filings! Thanks to their efforts, we are now listed in the official publication of tax-exempt organizations…and hopefully the IRS will update their website to remove the erroneous notice soon. In the meantime, feel free to contact us with any questions—we’ve rather given up on waiting for the IRS to work through their backlogs before making our announcement!
